NashvilleHealth Focuses on Health Equity

Focusing on Health Equity  We were thrilled to have so many great organizations and thought leaders in one room talking about the importance of Health Equity and looking for solutions to Nashville’s health disparities.

At NashvilleHealth, we focus on Health Equity and removing obstacles to health. True Health Equity means everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible. Unfortunately right now in Nashville that is not the case. We must work together to improve the health and well-being of ALL Nashvillians!

Partner Spotlight: Root Nashville
When you think about health, the environment may not be the first thing that comes to mind. But the health of our Nashville residents is directly intertwined with the health of our urban tree canopy. That’s why NashvilleHealth partners with Root Nashville.

The Root Nashville campaign is a citywide initiative to plant 500,000 trees in Davidson County by 2050. As new development flourishes, Nashville continues losing trees. This campaign is a concentrated effort to restore urban tree canopy.

NashvilleHealth Survey Addresses Gun Safety and Public Health
Gun safety, without a doubt, is a public health issue and needs to be addressed as such. Gun violence is the number one cause of premature death in the United States and has a tremendous impact on the physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being of our communities.

NashvilleHealth collected locally derived insight on gun safety in the Nashville Community Health and Well-Being Survey. Nashville is one of the few cities that has these data available.

Important data to note from the survey is that 27% of Nashvillians kept firearms in or around their homes, 42% of these firearms were loaded at the time of survey completion, and 51% of loaded firearms were kept unlocked.
