In recent weeks, we have launched our working group on hypertension, hosted a stakeholder session on tobacco, and participated in state and national discussions on cross-community engagement in health.

Tobacco Group Gathers for Work Session

NashvilleHealth recently hosted a second gathering of our Tobacco Working Group. More than 30 stakeholders provided feedback on recommendations from top national experts on tobacco cessation and prevention.  Participants were placed in small groups for dynamic discussion on four areas for tobacco control activity in Nashville: policy, healthcare, community and mass media. We continue to work with our stakeholders as we design a tobacco control “prescription” for Nashville. To participate in these efforts, please click here.

Nashville Lands Infant Mortality Support Grant

NashvilleHealth has joined with the Metro Public Health Department and the TSU College of Health Sciences for coalition building around improving Nashville’s birth outcomes. With one of the highest rates in the state of babies dying before their first birthday, attention to improving a baby’s chances of surviving is an important priority. Bolstered by a grant from CityMatCH, a national membership organization of city and county health departments’ maternal and child health (MCH) programs and leaders, the coalition will hold a kick-off meeting on Thursday, June 16. To participate, please click here.

NashvilleHealth Kicks Off Hypertension Working Group

Hypertension is a contributing factor in the majority of deaths in Davidson County.  NashvilleHealth’s inaugural Hypertension Working Group meeting brought together more than 35 community, government and business leaders with shared interest in reducing hypertension in Nashville.
