According to the National Retail Foundation, the average cost of school supplies (pencils, pens, notebooks, lunch boxes, etc.) is $122 per child. This number does not include other back-to-school expenses, like clothing or calculators and other electronics, or costs associated with required vaccinations and sports physicals.
In addition to the Back-to-School Bash, Connectus Health’s two Nashville clinics will offer free physicals and immunizations for students June 1 – August 31 to further alleviate the financial pressure that can affect some families during back to school time.
We started this event last year in an effort to provide Nashville’s at-risk youth with the means and confidence they need to gear up for the school year. In just a few hours, we served more than 300 local families, providing them with backpacks filled with school supplies, food and door prize giveaways that they otherwise might not have received, and we hope to DOUBLE that number this year!
